What is Plastering and When is it Required?
Plastering is the application of a protective and decorative layer on walls and ceilings, creating a smooth or textured finish. This service is essential for both new construction and renovation projects.
Plastering is required when property owners seek to repair damaged surfaces, improve aesthetic appeal, or prepare walls and ceilings for painting or wallpapering. It enhances the durability of structures by providing a layer that can withstand wear and tear.
Property owners might need plastering to address cracks, uneven surfaces, or to modernise interiors, ensuring a clean and polished look for their spaces. When plastering is required, it’s always best to reach out to a team of professionals, which is why many people turn to our experts.
At Marvel Home Developments, we take all clients through a swift and straightforward plastering process. Our service begins with the thorough preparation of the wall or ceiling surface.
Initially, any loose plaster, dust, or grime is removed to ensure a clean base. For new plasterboards, jointing tape is applied to seal gaps between the sheets. Next, a PVA adhesive is rolled over the surface to prime it, making it easier for the plaster to adhere.
Once the surface is primed, the plaster is mixed to a smooth, mud-like consistency. The first coat of plaster is then applied with a trowel, starting from the bottom corner and spreading upwards in sweeping motions.
After the first coat is applied evenly, it is left to dry slightly before smoothing out any bumps or gaps. A second, thinner coat of plaster is then applied in the same manner.
The final step involves sanding any rough edges after the plaster has fully dried, usually within 24 hours. This ensures a smooth and flawless finish, ready for painting or decorating.
